Lowry Park Zoo – Creatures Of The Night

Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo – Creatures Of The Night is a brand new experience for the season. This is a fun and non-frightening celebration of Halloween.  Fridays and Saturdays, Oct 7 through the 29th. It’s included with an all-day admission ticket or pay $19.95 after 4pm. 

You will love this and so will your kids. You can visit scare zones, or encounter animals, or maybe dance the night away at a ghoulish party. Lowry Park says no horror or gore, just startles and scares.

Asia, Africa, and Primate worlds are now illuminated for night viewing. You’ll see animals lurking till 10pm., or shudder at the creepy, crawlies at the eerie canal. You can stop by Wolf Haven Village to scout for passing werewolves; or the Slither Swamp to check out the reptiles (don’t hang around too long); and for the littlest ones in the family, there’s a fall harvest with friendly farm animals.

Dining at the Zoo includes seasonal items like pumpkin parfaits. Or older adventurers can visit the new beer garden.

American Heroes Car Show 2016 Dunedin

American Heroes Car Show 2016 Dunedin is really named American Classics, American Heroes Car Show but that ‘s too long for me to use as a title so I’ve amended it a bit.

On Saturday, Oct 8. starting at 9 am to 2 pm. On Main Street and Broadway in downtown Dunedin, FL., the classic and custom vehicles will start to arrive to show off their stuff.

In the first place, this great car show always starts with a special veterans ceremony in Pioneer Park. Representatives of Veterans organizations will be there too. Items will be available for purchase to benefit non-profit veterans  support organizations. The car show is FREE to register. For more info, or click here for their website.

 

American Classics, American Heroes Car Show, The event features a wide variety of classic & custom vehicles; including trucks and motorcycles from all over the area, bringing in over 175 auto enthusiasts and attracting over 3,000 happy spectators. There will be food, vendors, and entertainment

Entertainment Includes: The Alex Lopez Xpress, Gloria West, Big Jim, DJ Fader,  and more.

As  there were over 175 cars at last year’s show. I’m sure there will be even more this year. Our car club, AACA-Richey Region, is always well-represented. We all enjoy going to this show. And downtown Dunedin is so interesting with its quirky and varied shops.

Tampa Lowry Park Zoo Sunset Celebration is a whole new way to celebrate summer at the Zoo.  Enjoy the sunset over the park and see wild animals after dark, have dinner at the Zoo. Sounds like a perfect date night.

In particular, illuminated entertainment,  end of the night musical tributes and a laser light show cap off the evening.  

When are the Sunset Celebrations? Fridays and Saturdays from July 8 – August 6. until 10 pm.
Members of Lowry Park Zoo have free admittance to Sunset Celebration. After 4 pm tickets are $19.95; valid on that date only.

At the present time, Single day admission tickets are $29.95 for adults, children 3-1 $22.95, children 2 and under are free. You can save $2.00 per ticket when you purchase on-line here.

In addition, get to know the Clouded Leopard Cubs Aiya and Shigu, born on February 29. Consequently, they are Animal ambassadors-in- training teaching visitors the needs and perils of this beautiful but rare animal.

Volunteer At The Zoo

Finally, a volunteer program can put you in the action at the Zoo.  Volunteers must be 15 years old, must complete a Volunteer Application, also a Release of Liability. Broken down by age, Adult Volunteers are 21+, student volunteers are 15+. 

In fact, I hope you take the time to visit Tampa Lowry Park Zoo. It is a fantastic place to take the kids and there is always something special going on.

Fireworks Around Pasco County 2016

Fireworks Around Pasco County 2016. July 4th is just a few days away. Get your red, white, and blue on. Think about it, hot-dogs, music, ice-cream, fireworks and more fireworks. To be sure, it seems like I just posted these events for last year. In fact, here are several fireworks displays that may be of interest to you. 

There are many Fireworks Displays scheduled so let’s get to them.

Fireworks Around Pasco County 2016

Kiafest Mainstreet Blast is one of New Port Richey’s biggest celebrations.  However it is held on July 1 and 2nd (Friday and Saturday). Classic Rock music, food and beverages,  military vehicles on display, the beer garden, and the big finish, ends with lots of fireworks on Saturday over Orange Lake at 9:15. Kiafest will open at 5 pm to 11 pm Friday; as well as Saturday, noon to 11 pm.  More Info here.

Sparklebration at Pasco County Fairgrounds on July 4th from 4 to 9:30 pm.  Admission is $5; children under 12 are free. You will have live entertainment, eating contests, bounce houses, pony rides, petting zoo, games, skydivers and, of course, a fireworks display.  Best bring a blanket or chairs! Tarpon Springs Fireworks  starts in Craig Park with a patriotic picnic  at 10 am to 2 pm July 4th.  Later, fireworks will explode after sunset (after 8 pm according to the website) at Fred Howard Park. View more info here.  click on calendar, then event.

Clearwater Celebrates America is a huge event in Coachman Park at 301 Drew Street. A free event, the party starts at 4 pm, July 4th, live entertainment includes the Coachman Park Pops Orchestra. The Clearwater Gas Company presents Spark the Sky Fireworks show at approximately 9:30 pm. More info.

Safety Harbor Marina fireworks are set to go off at 9 pm (exactly) July 4th. With this in mind, be sure to get a good seat at the marina or waterfront park. Children’s activities and live entertainment are on the calendar.  More info.

Fireworks Across The Bay In St. Peterburg  begins at 9 pm (maybe 8:30 or 10; depending on the weather). In fact, because the Fireworks display is visible along the St. Pete waterfront, picking out your view area is important. Prime viewing spots are listed here.

Hernando County. Unfortunately, Freedom Fest won’t be held this year.

Therefore, with this list in mind,  I hope you will be able to find a fireworks display for your family’s enjoyment.  I noticed that several of the past events are not on the list (check out  2015, or 2014). Things are always changing, and more events may turn up as we get closer.

Sims Park Summer Sunset Concerts

Sims Park Summer Sunset Concerts Series presented by the City of New Port Richey. Concerts are scheduled for July 9, July 23, and August 6. In the event that one of our awesome summer storms, the concert will be cancelled that evening.

The Concerts will be held at the bandshell in newly remodeled Sims Park in downtown New Port Richey. Sims Park is easily reached from Main Street and Bank Street. As a matter of fact, here’s a map.

As you are aware of if you have ever attended events at Sims Park, there is very limited seating , so bring chairs, or blankets to sit on. Also, bring water and insect spray. No alcoholic beverages, please. Concerts will run from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm.

For your information, there is a concert scheduled this Saturday night (June 18) by Shawn Brown Band (Jazz) so why not make plans to come out to Sims Park to enjoy the music.

Be sure you wear sunscreen, a hat if you need one, and protective clothing. The sun really shines on those old cars and reflects on you. Bring water although usually there is someone with water to give out but just to be on the safe side: bring water. Don’t forget your camera!

Armed Forces History Museum In Largo

The Armed Forces History Museum in Largo, FL is hoping to put a bit more memorial back into Memorial Day.  The 8th Annual Memorial Day Funfest is Monday, May 30 from 9 am to 3 pm.

The Museum is billed as the “largest military collection in the Southeast”.  It has 50,000 square feet of animated dioramas, interactive exhibits, special audio and visual effects, and military equipment, vehicles and memorabilia. (info courtesy of the museum).

Guest appearances for the wreath laying ceremony are by US Rep. David Jolly and Largo Mayor Woody Brown. The proceeds of the event will go towards educating local children about history.  The ceremony begins at 11:50.

Visiting the Pearl Harbor Room is quite an experience with model boats from movies, video of the attack, and the sounds of war.  The interactive displays will send through artifacts from  WWI and WWII as well as other, more recent, conflicts like Desert Storm, and Iraq. There are vehicles for the kids to climb in and “pretend” drive.

Ticket Cost is $10/adults and $5/children.

 

The idea of a Memorial Day event here is to remind us all what the Memorial Day Holiday represents. So bring your kids and let them have fun and learn about why we have a Memorial Day.

Earth Day At Crews Lake Wilderness Park

Earth Day At Crews Lake Wilderness Park is this Saturday, April 23 from 9 am to 3 pm.  A family friendly event to promote environmental awareness and sustainability.  The event is sponsored primarily by Covanta Energy and Keep Pasco Beautiful. 

This will be the 21st Earth Day event! It is free to attend. There will be items for purchase.

• The native plants society will have their plants for sale.
• There will be children’s crafts, educational displays,
• Lady bug release and the Water Ventures Learning Lab.
• Electronics will be collected: two TVs are free and then additional TVs will be $7 each. Bring any device containing mercury, excluding light bulbs, and you will receive a $5 gift card.
• Document shredding with a limit of 5 bags/boxes per person.
• Rain water harvesting workshop along with composting.
• The pill take back program  so you can bring your expired or unused medications.
• And, animal rescue groups with adoptable pets, so you just may find a new family member!

Where Is Crews Lake Wilderness Park?

Crews Lake Wilderness Park is located off Shady Hills Road in Pasco County, Florida. The park includes hiking trails, a short paved bike trail, playground, wooden tower, athletic fields, and the 7.5 in gauge Central Pasco & Gulf Railroad.

Earth Day At Crews Lake Wilderness Park

Chasco Car Show New Port Richey

Chasco Car Show New Port Richey is this Sunday April 3, 2016.

First, Where is the Chasco Car Show New Port Richey going to be?  It will be at Orange Lake, the same location as last year, in downtown New Port Richey. Registration starts at 8 am – 12 pm.  

Again,  hosted by Gulf Side Corvette Club, this is always a great classic car show. Pre-register fee is $18.00; $20. day of show. A portion of the proceeds will benefit several local charities. 

Also, There will be live music, door prizes, and a 50/50 drawing.

Second, attending the show is free to the public; the registration fee is for showing your classic car.

Third, you will get to see the new look of Sims Park downtown with the great renovation that has been going on for several months. We haven’t been over there yet so I’m looking forward to seeing it. Sims Park and Orange Lake are off Main Street and Bank Street in mid-town New Port Richey. You can get to it by taking Highway 19. Turn east on Main Street. You can’t miss the car show!

Again, if you’ve been to any Chasco Car Shows before, you know what great fun it is to see all the beautiful cars that show up for the event. We go every year and love it. Timber Greens Community Garage Sale  Is Saturday, April 9, 2016 from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm.  This is a highly anticipated Timber Greens event and cars will be lined up outside the community.

Timber Greens Country Club is located in New Port Richey, FL. The entrance is on the north side of River Crossing Blvd. between Little Road and Starkey Blvd. 

Timber Greens is a 55 plus golfing community that is gated and has guards, please follow the guards’ directions on your way into the sale. There will also be golfers coming in so let them play through.

The food court will feature Hot dogs, Hamburgers, Chips and Soda along with PAR-T-Cake the Clown. 

Timber Greens Community Garage Sale is always lots of fun and who knows what treasures await you there.
